  1. Greetings and blessings (1:1-2)

  2. God has granted us every spiritual blessing in Christ (1:3-14)

    1. God chose us to be holy and blameless before him (1:4)

    2. He predestined us in love to adoption as sons (1:5-6)

    3. We have redemption and forgiveness of sins through his blood (1:7-8)

    4. He made known to us the mystery of his will (1:9-10)

    5. In Christ, we have obtained an inheritance (1:11-12)

    6. Those who believed the gospel have been sealed by the Spirit (1:13-14)

  3. Paul prays for wisdom and revelation for the church (1:15-23)

    1. Paul prays that God would give the church a spirit of wisdom and revelation (1:17)

    2. Paul prays that the church’s eyes would be enlightened to know God’s hope, glory and power (1:18-19)

    3. That power was manifested when God raised Christ and seated him at the right hand of God (1:20-23)

      1. God placed Christ above all rule, authority, power and dominion (1:21)

      2. God gave Christ as head over the church which is his body (1:22-23)

  4. Our past, present and future before God (2:1-22)

    1. We were previously dead in our trespassess (2:1-3)

    2. We formerly walked according to spirit of disobedience (2:2)

    3. We formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh and were children of wrath (2:3)

    4. God made us alive in Christ and seated us in the heavenly places (2:4-7)

    5. For you have been saved by faith to do good works (2:8-10)

    6. We were formerly excluded from the commonwealth of Israel (2:11-12)

    7. But Christ has made peace between Jews and Gentiles (2:13-23)

      1. Christ reconciled both groups in his body (2:14-17)

      2. We are no longer strangers and aliens but citizens and the family of God (2:19)

      3. We are being built up into a temple for God (2:20-22)

  5. The “mystery” of Christ is now being revealed (3:1-13)

    1. The mystery has now been revealed to the apostles and prophets in the Spirit (3:5)

    2. The mystery is that Gentiles are fellow heirs in Christ Jesus (3:6)

    3. Paul was given the privilege of preaching this message to the Gentiles (3:7-9)

    4. This was in accordance with God’s wisdom and eternal purpose which is being made known through the church (3:10-11)

  6. Paul prays for the Ephesian church once again (3:14-21)

    1. Paul prays that they would be strengthened in the inner man (3:16)

    2. Paul prays that Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith (3:17)

    3. Paul prays that they would know the love of Christ which surpasses all knowledge (3:17-19)

    4. Paul finishes with a doxology: “To him who is able to do more than we could ask or imagine be all the glory…” (3:20-21)

  7. We ought to walk in a manner worthy of our calling (4:1-16)

    1. Believers must show humility, patience and tolerance in love (4:2)

    2. Believers should diligently preserve the unity of the church (4:3-6)

    3. Christ has given the church gifted persons: apostles, evangelists, prophets, pastors / teachers (4:11-16).

      1. They are to equip the saints for the work of service and for the maturing of the body of Christ (4:12-13)

      2. This helps us avoid being carried away by every wind of doctrine (4:14-15)

      3. Every member contributes to this growth in love (4:16)

  8. Do not walk according to your former ways but put on a new self (4:17-32)

    1. Do not live as those who are far from God in immorality and indecency (4:17-19)

    2. Take off the old corrupted man and put on a new nature created in God’s image and holiness (4:20-24)

      1. Do not lie but speak the truth to one another (4:25)

      2. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger (4:26-27)

      3. Do not steal but labor with your own hands (4:28)

      4. Instead of coarse speech let your words by edifying (4:29)

      5. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit (4:30)

      6. Put away bitterness, anger and slander (4:31)

      7. Be kind and forgiving to one another (4:32)

  9. Be imitators of God and Christ walking in love (5:1-20)

    1. Put away immorality and coarse and filthy talk (5:3-5)

    2. Walk as children of the light exposing the deeds of darkness (5:6-14)

    3. Walk in wisdom and be filled with the Spirit (5:15-18)

  10. Domestic Code (5:21-6:9)

    1. Submit to one another (5:21-33)

    2. Wives be subject to your husbands as to the Lord (5:22-24)

    3. Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church and as your own body (5:22-24)

    4. Children, honor your mother and father so that you may have a long life (6:1-3)

    5. Fathers, do not provoke your children (6:4)

    6. Slaves obey your masters (6:5-8)

    7. Masters do not threaten your slaves (6:9)

  11. Put on the armor of God to defend yourself against the devil’s schemes (6:10-24)

    1. Our struggle is against invisible spiritual forces in the heavenly realms (6:12)

    2. Protect yourself with God’s armor (6:13-17)

      1. Gird your loins with truth (6:14)

      2. The breastplate of righteousness (6:14)

      3. Shod your feet with the gospel of peace (6:15)

      4. The shield of faith (6:16)

      5. The sword of the Spirit (which is God’s word) (6:17)

    3. Pray continually and on my behalf (6:18-20)

    4. Final greetings (6:22-24)
